![]() ![]() However, creating a great onboarding experience isn't easy. Companies that have effective onboarding processes in place achieve 2.5 times more revenue growth and 1.9 times the profit margin compared to organizations with poor onboarding strategies. Why onboarding remote employees is difficultĪccording to BCG, onboarding is among the most influential factors when it comes to employee experience. On the other hand, some researchers suggest that extending the onboarding process up to a year may improve employee retention and help new hires feel like part of the team. Some remote organizations prefer to use a framework that helps a new hire to get fully trained in two weeks. This period can last from a couple of weeks to 3+ months, depending on the complexity of the new hire’s role, the company’s maturity, and many other factors. For example, as a new hire on the design team, you can be a part of an orientation with other new hires joining the organization, but your onboarding is likely to last for several months and be tailored to your role as a designer. Onboarding can include orientation, but isn't limited to it. Onboarding is a series of events happening over an extended period of time and is usually tailored for a specific role. Sometimes it also includes a section where new hires fill in mandatory new employee paperwork, learn about the company’s benefits, and review codes of conduct and safety policies. Its goal is to welcome a group of new employees to an organization and, often, creating a space for them to learn about the company vision, mission, culture, and history. It’s important to understand the difference between orientation and onboarding. How is remote onboarding different from orientation? Informal onboarding can be more ad hoc and include shadowing other people on the team, getting to know various stakeholders, understanding the company’s conventions and approach to problem-solving through observation and impromptu coaching with the new hire’s manager. Formal onboarding usually includes a series of workshops, training sessions, video calls and exercises. Onboarding can be formal and informal (and usually, companies use both approaches so the new teammate is fully ramped up). ![]() For an employer, it's a valuable time to share all of the elements that will help new team members be successful as they learn more about their role in the company. From an employee's perspective, an onboarding program is an opportunity to get used to a new environment. Remote employee onboarding is the same process, but when the new hire is going to be working remotely rather than from the office. Employee onboarding is a series of activities that allow new hires to get to know their team and learn about the company’s attitudes, methods, rituals, and tools. ![]()

But just because the risk is lower doesn’t mean there’s no risk at all. Yes, figures do suggest that Mac computers are less likely than Windows PCs to come under threat from malware. In 2020 alone, 674,273 new Mac malware samples were discovered. While Macs have largely flown under the radar of cybercriminals in the past, that’s no longer true. The first question to ask is, “Does malware exist on the macOS platform?” Want to learn more about how we select antivirus products? Take a look at our antivirus testing methodology guide. We recommend opting for a paid antivirus if you can they are relatively inexpensive and offer significantly better protection than free alternatives. We’ve rounded up some of the best in separate posts, but here are our top seven free and paid options. If you decide you’d like to install antivirus software, there are plenty of options out there, both free and paid. Following best practices for securing your device and using built-in security features can help, but antivirus software can protect your device even further. Mac computers are not immune to viruses, and other malware and Mac-targeted attacks are increasingly prevalent. In short, yes, you do need antivirus for your Mac. Do I need antivirus protection for a Mac? In this post, we discuss why you need to consider using an antivirus with a Mac computer and reveal some of the best antivirus software to help. Apple’s built-in security system does a reasonable job of keeping malware at bay, but you should still beef up your protection by installing antivirus software. This obviously makes them vulnerable to malware and may render them more attractive targets for cybercriminals. Mac users often forgo the use of antivirus software, deeming it unnecessary. A study in 2021 found that the number of malicious programs targeting Mac computers increased by over 1,000 percent in 2020! Hackers are clearly shifting their sights onto Mac computers, so users beware. MacBooks, iMacs, Mac Pros, and Mac Minis are all still vulnerable to many viruses and other malware, and it’s a rapidly growing problem. It’s true that Mac computers are more secure in some ways than Windows systems and benefit from a lower market share, making them less valuable targets for hackers. Apple dropped the “we don’t get viruses” marketing line back in 2012 – an admission on the company’s part that, yes, Mac computers get viruses. If you think using an Apple computer protects you from viruses and malware, it’s time to think again. ![]() ![]() ![]() However, the free C1 for Sony, naturally, does not like all the other cameras, and DxO OP 11 does not support Fuji X30 and my old Oly E-500. ![]() ![]() I've been in gamedev for about 8 years now and I made probably $300 profit in that entire time. This course has been especially designed to take your complete beginner or intermediate level skills in Stencyl and build them up to the level required of a professional indie mobile game developer. Unsolicited advice, but be aware that gamedev, especially as a hobbyist, is no substitute for a day job. However, 2 months ago I got laid off from my last job i had for 8 years, and I feel I need to do something with my life, and I really want to try and make games. I would give Stencyl a try, but ultimately if you're serious about entering gamedev, I'd start looking into more popular options like Unity, Gamemaker studio, etc. Right off the bat, I can tell you that RPGMaker does not support the creation of metroidvanias or action RPGs without copious amounts of custom code. However, it has a large community and I found JS coding to be more accessible than what was available on Stencyl. RPGMaker is even more limited, since it is designed to only produce one type of game: a turn-based JRPG. It was easy enough to make simple games, but larger projects were a chore. It has been a few years since I worked with it but I remembered that while it was easy to get into, I constantly felt constrained by what I could do. Stencyl is a well-made gamemaker that is suitable for newcomers but is ultimately limited by its design, small community, and visual programming language. ![]() I have experience with both and here my personal thoughts. Right now I want to try and make a proof of concept myself before I go that next step what would be good ways to find and hire people that could help on those fronts, once I get to that point. I also know that I am not sure I can do everything myself, especially the art side. Would the 2 makers listed be good with that? 2 games right now are my priority: A metroid Vania staring a Slime girl space cop whose main gimmick is changing the temperature around her to change her body consistency to fight and solve puzzles, and an action RPG. I guess I should say the type of games I want to make. Pixel Game Maker MV was something I have been really interested but I know its early access months ago was an issue, but has it gotten better? Stencyl is something a friend recommended and its free, but how good is it? I tried Game Maker and was a bit overwhelmed. So I want to get a game dev that doesn't require too much programming. I don't really like programming though, and art was never my strong suit, but I feel my specialty is in the design, story, and creation of games. However, due to some poor school choices and not wanting to go into the main game field due to the horror stories I was hearing at the time I never got to there. daydreamed game ideas, constantly making sonic level designs, and have thought up many games. Written mainly in C++, QGIS makes extensive use of the Qt library. In 2013, along with release of version 2.0 the name was officially changed from Quantum GIS to QGIS to avoid confusion as both names had been used in parallel. Version 1.0 was released in January 2009. Gary Sherman began development of Quantum GIS in early 2002, and it became an incubator project of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation in 2007.
